Jaguar Land Rover will focus on boosting sales in North America as it targets “double-digit revenue growth” using a multi-energy powertrain approach for its Land Rover products.
These vehicles, including the Range Rover, Land Rover Defender and Land Rover Discovery, will be offered in the choice of hybrid-electric, plug-in hybrid-electric, mild hybrid-electric and battery-electric versions, JLR’s June 17 statement said.
The move is part of JLR’s Reimagine strategy that will also see new launches of BEV products such as the upcoming Jaguar Type 01, Range Rover and Range Rover Sport Electric, followed by new multi-energy models of the Range Rover and Defender brands built on the automaker’s new Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA).
This platform, built at JLR’s Halewood plant at Merseyside in the northwest of England, will house the automaker’s new full-hybrid powertrain and new BEV products.
JLR’s new focus on North America will see Defender-branded products co-developed with Stellantis and specifically designed for U.S. off-road enthusiasts.
The company also reconfirmed its existing five‑year commitment which started in FY 2024 to invest 18 billion British pounds ($24.1 billion) in future technologies, vehicle platforms and transformation by FY2029 as it drives growth in a flexible propulsion, software and AI-defined era.
At the same time, JLR’s business strategy is also focusing on cost reductions of 1.7 billion pounds to reduce its break-even point toward 300,000 units over the next two years.
“As we enter a critical business delivery phase of our Reimagine strategy, launching five new products over the next two years across our incredible House of Brands, now is also the time to evolve our plan to offer global markets greater propulsion choice to unlock growth and build resilience,” JLR CEO P.B. Balaji said during the company’s Investor Day presentations.
“To truly manifest the power of our brands, we will increase our focus on North America, our biggest market,” he added.
Product plans in detail
Range Rover and Range Rover Sport will remain on the flexible modular longitudinal architecture (MLA) producing MHEV, PHEV and full BEV vehicles with the launch of Range Rover Electric and Range Rover Sport Electric models later this year.
The Defender brand currently comprises three global products: short-wheelbase 90, medium-length 110 and long-wheelbase 130, all built at JLR’s production facility in Nitra, Slovakia.
Planned U.S. focused Defender models are likely to be built at Stellantis’ Jeep facilities per the pair’s partnership Memorandum of Understanding announced in a Stellantis May 20 release. If agreed, the collaboration would see JLR side-step punitive import tariffs and Stellantis maximizing the efficiency of its production plants.
A new model from the Defender family has been confirmed as the second vehicle to be launched on the EMA platform as a hybrid, plus a BEV in future.
The Discovery has had a distinct place in JLR’s portfolio since its birth in 1989. It will be brought into the future with propulsion flexibility and innovations in product design with announcements on confirmed plans yet to come.
Jaguar recently celebrated its 90th anniversary and has been radically reimagined to be a distinctive, bold and aspirational brand.
It will become JLR’s uniquely electric brand manufactured at the Solihull plant in England’s Midlands region. Jaguar’s luxury four‑door Type 01 grand tourer will be revealed later this year.
