Renault CEO Luca de Meo hands the top job of running the automaker’s battery-electric vehicle unit, Ampere, to its chief operating officer, Josep Maria Recasens.
As de Meo steps aside to concentrate on the automaker’s overall future model range, Recasens steps into the job of running the EV portion after an extensive career beginning with the Volkswagen Group working at the Seat brand in Spain where he held various posts in research and development, product planning and international project management, before being appointed the brand’s director of strategy, secretary general and director of public affairs.
Recasens joined the Renault Group as senior vice-president of strategy and business development. He was involved in the implementation of Renault’s turn-around "Renaulution" strategy and in particular worked in arranging the company’s partnerships. In early 2023, he was appointed chief strategy officer as member of the Renault’s Leadership Team and took over the management of the Iberian Peninsula countries. At the time of Ampere's creation on November 1, 2023, Recasens was also appointed chief operating officer of that company.
“I am very pleased to hand over to Josep Maria as CEO, following on from his role as Chief Operations Officer (COO) of Ampere, to continue the deep and rapid transformation we have been driving with Ampere since its creation. We have been working together since 2022 on this project, which has now become a reality, convinced that the Group, with Ampere, would make a real difference in the electric and software revolution," says de Meo.
