The popular Jeep Cherokee, absent from showrooms for two and a half years, has returned. And what a comeback it is.
The midsize SUV segment is one of the most competitive in the U.S. market, so it takes a lot to draw attention. But the 2026 Jeep Cherokee manages to do just that with a taut, highly stylish, functional and roomy cabin that belies the below-market-average $46,585 sticker of the Overland model tested by WardsAuto judges as part of the Wards 10 Best Interiors & UX awards.
We’ve been enamored with Stellantis’ ability in recent years to thematically blend unique colors and trim in its interiors that play to its multitude of brand themes. The trend continues with the reimagined Cherokee.
The Overland model’s classic black/arctic-white color scheme combines with the vehicle’s overall clean interior lines and clever accent touches to provide the Cherokee with a look and feel of a much more expensive vehicle.
“Simply striking,” said Bob Gritzinger, a Wards 10 Best Interiors & UX judge, while summing up the judging panel’s initial impressions.
Kudos to the Jeep designers for their attention to detail, evident in the geometrically patterned and perforated Capri leatherette seats, the textured surfaces applied to the plastic trim along the dash and center console and the splash of brightwork here and there that provides some pop.

To top it off, much of what is employed inside the cabin is sustainable, from the carpet and plastics made from recycled material to the eco-friendly fabrics like the standard Soul Cloth trim and Capri leatherette that’s available on Limited and Overland models.
“Jeep is serious about making interiors sustainable, but the materials also give the Cherokee a fresh, modern look,” observed judge Drew Winter.
The linear instrument panel is perfectly balanced, bulging slightly at the center where the infotainment screen is seamlessly integrated and tapering evenly into the A-pillars to maximize leg room. The wide center console narrows neatly toward the rear and is accented with ridged plastic trim and just the right touch of piano black and brightwork — including the knurled-aluminum-like gear selector — to add a bit of shine. A cubby below the floating console provides a handy spot for storing a purse and the like.
The Cherokee’s fifth-generation Uconnect infotainment system features faster response, an embedded navigation system and standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The bright, 12.3-inch infotainment screen, located strategically between the vents and center console, features crisp icons and a well-organized menu that is easily understood. It is paired with a full-color 10.25-inch digital driver display customizable to show speed, navigation maps, off-road data and other vehicle-status information.
Jeep smartly avoids placing all the controls in the Cherokee’s center screen. Instead, there are touch-sensitive buttons for the climate system packaged conveniently along the dash just above the center console. Fixed touch-sensitive controls for the heated/cooled seats and heated steering wheel flank the infotainment screen for quick access. And yes, there are physical knobs for radio volume and tuning. A charger is housed discreetly at the opening of the center console, holding the phone securely in position even in the event of a sudden lane change or brake maneuver.
“Jeep’s wireless smartphone charger ranks above average clever,” judge Robin Warner scribbled on his scoresheet. “Well done!”

Additional hard buttons are positioned at the sporty, squared-off steering wheel. Use them to operate the radio, adjust the instrument-panel readouts and activate the adaptive cruise control with a single press. It’s a hands-on system that keeps the vehicle nicely centered in the lane. There’s also a physical escape handle designers cleverly integrated into the inner door panel just in case the electronic door release mechanism is inoperable.
Many safety-related features are incorporated to make driving easier and enhance the user experience, including intersection collision assist, park assist, full-speed forward collision warning and pedestrian/cyclist emergency braking.
The new Cherokee also got bigger in every dimension with this latest rendition. And Jeep puts the extra size to good use inside the cabin. Up front, driver and passengers will enjoy the added elbow and hip room as they settle into the heated, cooled and highly adjustable front seats. The rear bench — also heated at the outboard positions — is spacious and comfortable, as well, with generous legroom even with front seats backed up to their limit.
There’s also considerable cargo room — 33.6 cubic feet — in the nicely tailored area behind the second row, and seats fold flat to more than double hauling capacity to 68.3 cubic feet.
In short, the Jeep Cherokee is the complete package, blending high style and near-luxury touches with advanced-technology features, usability and comfort — all at a competitive price, landing it firmly on the 2026 Wards 10 Best Interiors & UX list.
