Ferrari has pulled the wraps off its Amalfi Spider version of the ‘entry-level’ Amalfi coupe first revealed last summer.
While the 640-hp turbocharged V8 powertrain remains the same, this wind-in-the-hair version features an old-school soft-top available in personalized options of four colors in tailor-made fabric and two in technical fabric, including the new Tecnico Ottanio.
This technical fabric features a special weave that claims to create a shimmering effect that enhances the material’s three-dimensionality, Ferrari said in its March 11 release.
The soft top opens in 13.5 seconds and can be operated on the move at speeds of up to 37 mph (60 km/h). At just 8.7 inches thick when folded, the unit allows 9.0 cubic feet of cargo capacity, with an extra 6.1 cubic feet freed up when the roof is raised.
Soundproofing and climate insulation is provided by a five-layer fabric construction and claims to be comparable to that of a Ferrari retractable hard top.
The Spider’s layout, described as “2+” by Ferrari, allows rear seats suitable for traveling with children or increasing load capacity. Top-down protection against wind turbulence is also enhanced with an integrated wind deflector built into the rear bench backrest and operated at the touch of a button.
Prices haven’t yet been announced, but expect to see the Amalfi Spider arrive near $300,000.
