Aston Martin launches its hyper-sports SUV, the 717-hp flagship DBX S employing performance technologies lifted from the Valhalla supercar.
The ‘off-roader’ boasts a 4.0L twin-turbo gasoline V-8 using the larger compressor wheel diameters and other internal improvements from the Valhalla. This provides more power at higher engine revs while boosting maximum torque output to 663 lb.-ft. (900 Nm), up from 516 lb.-ft. (700 Nm) for the standard DBX model.
Claimed acceleration from 0-to-62 mph (100 km/h) is just 3.3 seconds and top speed remains unchanged at an impressive 193 mph (311 km/h).
As with the previous fastest SUV model, its DBX707 stablemate, DBX S automatically distributes its power between the front and rear wheels, including an ability to send 50% of torque to the front and up to 100% of torque to just the rear wheels.
It achieves this through a 9-speed wet-clutch transmission, removing the need for a conventional torque converter and delivering extreme performance on launch from standstill.
On the DBX S, the gearbox is modified to reflect the car’s extended rev range, while downshifts in Sport and Sport + modes when the car is in automatic are more aggressive.
Curb weight is reduced overall by 103.4 lbs. (47 kg) through multiple lightweighting exercises, notably the loss of roof rails from its new carbon fiber roof.
There’s also the option of magnesium alloy wheels and, if chosen in the 23-in. size, saves a further optional wheel, a further 41.8 lbs. (19 kg) of unsprung mass.
Prices are expected to approach the $300,000 mark. The DBX S is available to order now with deliveries expected in Q4 2025.
Aston Martin CEO Adrian Hallmark says: “The introduction of DBX S not only reaffirms our commitment to producing the most exciting, rewarding and beautiful cars. It also sends a powerful statement of intent about our ambitions not just for DBX, but for the Aston Martin brand.”
