Jeep has unveiled its first all-electric “Trail Rated” SUV in the shape of the mid-size 2026 Jeep Recon which claims a 0 to 60 mph sprint time of just 3.6 seconds, per a company press release.
The electric SUV delivers maximum power output of 650 hp and 620 ft.-lb. of torque, with an estimated range of up to 250 miles.
With its Wrangler-esque styling, Stellantis claims it’s the only fully electric SUV designed with removable doors, swing gate glass and rear quarter glass without needing any tools.
The Jeep Recon’s powertrain features Stellantis in-house designed electric drive modules (EDMs), each rated at 250 kilowatts, which deliver standard electric 4x4 propulsion. Each EDM combines an electric motor, gearing and power electronics into a single, compact unit.
Customers in North America exclusively get the U.S.-built Moab trail-ready trim, with increased off-road capability and a rear EDM employing a 15:1 final drive ratio that delivers a high level of torque multiplication for particularly challenging conditions.
Its front EDM uses an 11:1 final drive ratio in an open differential design and the front axle includes automatic free-wheel hub driving at each wheel to save energy during on-road driving.
All versions of the electric Recon boast an electronic locking differential, which goes from open to fully locked with a flip of a switch.
Measures to make the drivetrain cope with the Recon’s increased power output include larger diameter half shafts and stout constant velocity (CV) joints to better transfer torque to the wheels.
The powertrain features a 100-kilowatt-hour, 400-volt battery pack that is protected by a full suite of sturdy, high-strength steel underbody shields.
The suspension in all Recon models uses a short-long arm on the front units and an integral link at the rear to maximize tire contact and traction.
On Moab trim models, the suspension and standard 33-inch tires claim 9.4 inches of ground clearance. Off-road specifications include a 33.8-degree approach angle, 33.1-degree departure angle and 23.3-degree breakover angle.
The Selec-Terrain traction management system on the Moab adds an exclusive “Rock mode” in addition to the standard Auto, Sport, Snow and Sand modes. Rock mode also includes a hill hold feature to prevent roll-back when switching from brake to throttle.
All Jeep Recon vehicles are fitted with low-speed Selec-Speed Control for challenging inclines and declines.
Inside, a two-level center console features a wireless charger on the upper level and a cord pass-through to the lower compartment, which is ideal for tablets, purses or larger items. Modular door panels with removable elastic straps and interchangeable cargo solutions provide flexible organization.
The Recon offers 65.9 cubic feet of rear cargo space with rear seats folded down, as well as an additional 3.0 cubic feet storage in the front trunk. It’s designed to take a carry-on suitcase for adventurers needing to check-in with the office.
Recycled materials are used extensively through the cabin, including in the seats, console, doors and instrument panel. Interior surfaces are finished in Capri, a non-leather synthetic material for easy clean up. The headliner and carpets also feature recycled content.
The Recon’s standard Alpine audio system employs speakers moved from the traditional door location to beneath the seats, enabling uninterrupted sound when the doors are removed.
In-cabin technology includes a new 12.3-inch driver cluster as standard featuring customizable menu options and modern graphics, paired with a 14.5-inch horizontal touchscreen radio/center display.
Jeep’s latest infotainment suite, Uconnect 5, is featured in the Recon and uses bigger digital buttons for ease of use in any terrain. Larger dynamic displays also enhance readability for maps and camera views, even when rattling around in challenging off-road conditions.
There’s also a new Jeep-exclusive Trails Offroad app, offering a comprehensive guide to trails across the U.S. and Canada, now with pitch and roll mapping. Optimized BEV pages provide real-time insights into vehicle state of charge, while Dynamic Range Mapping powered by TomTom helps plan long trips with precision, indicating when and where to charge.
Additional enhancements include Amazon Alexa voice assistance and an updated Jeep mobile app that supports scheduled maintenance, roadside assistance, accident support, and real-time safety and recall notifications.
“The 2026 Jeep Recon is a bold step forward for the brand, an all-electric SUV that stays true to our core values of freedom, adventure and capability,” said Jeep CEO, Bob Broderdorf, in the release. “It’s trail-rated, purpose-built and ready to take Jeep enthusiasts into the future without compromising the legendary performance they expect.”
The 2026 Jeep Recon will enter production early next year at Stellantis’ Toluca Assembly Plant in Mexico, with initial launches in the U.S. and Canada followed by global expansion in Q4. The EV will have a starting MSRP of $65,000 (excluding $1,995 destination fee).
