WardsAuto Podcast: Jeep Goes BEV

Jeep, the iconic outdoor vehicle brand, is introducing its first all-electric SUV in late 2024.

The worst-kept secret in the auto industry is that every time Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram gets acquired, it’s the Jeep brand the buyer really wants, though the Ram truck business is certainly profitable as well.

Stellantis, the current owner of the iconic brand that started 80 years ago as the principal personnel carrier of the Allied Forces in World War Two, especially during this week in 1944 when the Allies landed in Normandy, later this year will introduce its first-ever all-electric vehicle. The Wagoneer S is a premium five-seat SUV.

While the Jeep brand is a major money-maker for Stellantis, it has not returned to pre-pandemic sales levels. Sales in 2023 were 44% below the 900,000-plus level of 2018.

WardsAuto Podcast Host David Kiley was in New York City for the introduction of the Jeep Wagoneer S and talked with North American Jeep Chief Bill Peffer.
