Magna Confirms Mini Paceman to Be Built in Austria

Production of the Paceman is expected to begin in late 2012 on the same assembly line as the Mini Countryman. There is no official information about planned volumes.

Magna Confirms Mini Paceman to Be Built in Austria

VIENNA – Magna International confirms plans to produce the Mini Paceman at its Magna Steyr Fahrzeugtechnik plant in Graz, Austria.

Magna says it recently signed a contract with BMW for development and assembly of the Paceman.

It says the Paceman represents the second new-vehicle program produced by Magna Steyr for Mini.

Production of the Paceman is expected to begin in late 2012 on the same assembly line as the Mini Countryman. There is no official information about planned volumes.

Mini unveiled the Paceman concept, also called Sports Activity Coupé, at this year’s Detroit auto show.

Magna Steyr manufactured 68,526 vehicles in the year’s first half, up 70.1% from like-2010.

The figure includes 52,952 Mini Countryman, 11,420 Peugeot RCZ, 3,614 Mercedes-Benz G-Class and 540 Aston Martin Rapide units.

Complete vehicle-assembly volumes increased 70.1%, while sales jumped 35% to $1.4 billion for the six months ended June 30, Magna Steyr says.
