Stellantis has announced the potential of “significant production disruptions” for certain Fiat models manufactured in Italy following a supply shortage of computer chips.
The auto group reports that holdups in the shipments of N3 GSE engine control units from its supplier will impact the scheduled production of some models and dilute its market share in October, in a statement emailed to WardsAuto.
The ECU shortage could especially impact production volumes of the Fiat Pandina, one of the brand’s most popular compact models.
“Stellantis and Fiat are working with the highest priority to identify alternative solutions and gradually restore normal operations,” the group said in the statement.
However, Stellantis added that the shortage
could extend into November and December, affecting its Pomigliano d’Arco and Mirafiori factories in particular and disrupting production of the Fiat 500.
A knock-on effect may also impact Stellantis’ plants producing engine components in Italy, which may further disrupt vehicle production, the company warned.
