French brand Citroën is experiencing enough demand for its fourth-generation C3 urban B-segment model to open additional manufacturing capacity in Serbia.
The Stellantis brand’s best-selling model will now also be built at the automotive group’s site in Kragujevac, in central Serbia.
This plant has enjoyed a renaissance since a two-year upgrading program completed last year allowing it to accommodate the Stellantis Smart Car platform and the production of battery-electric vehicles.
The site employs more than 1,000 employees and relies on the latest automated and robotic production lines.
The new C3 has already totaled more than 130,000 orders since arriving at European dealerships in the last quarter of 2024. It is now the third best-selling models in both France and Italy and its BEV version is second in BEV sales in France.
So far, nearly a third of overall sales are for the electric version which claims a range of 199 miles (320 km) between charges. The non-electrics are offered with 1.2L, 1.4L and 1.6L engines . A hybrid version is also available.
Production in Serbia complements existing production in Trnava, Slovakia, which is also home to the Citroën C3 Aircross.
Citroën has sold more than 5.6 million C3s since its launch in 2002.
