German automakers could be among the first to benefit from advanced artificial intelligence driven by chip giant Nvidia as it promises to boost Europe’s capabilities in the technology.
CEO Jensen Huang tells the VivaTech conference in Paris that Nvidia will build its first AI-powered cloud in Germany.
The company’s technology will combine AI with robotics and help carmakers, including BMW and Mercedes-Benz, with processes covering a range of vehicle production activities from simulating product design to managing logistics.
In Germany, Nvidia’s AI factory will be powered by Nvidia systems and servers featuring 10,000 graphics processing units that the company says in a release will “enable Europe’s industrial leaders to accelerate every manufacturing application, from design, engineering and simulation to factory digital twins and robotics.”
This is part of Nvidia’s strategy to expand technology centers in seven countries and to open up its compute marketplace for European companies.
“Every industrial revolution begins with infrastructure. AI is the essential infrastructure of our time, just as electricity and the internet once were,” Huang says in a post-conference company statement.
He outlines plans for up to 20 AI factories in Europe targeting development, training and deployment of AI models.
