In its upcoming Type 01 electric luxury sedan, Jaguar has omitted the large central control screen, opting instead for what appears to be an old-school button panel.
The cabin features a large internal spine separator that runs the entire length of the cabin and sections off the individual seats, giving each seat a business-class feel. The door panels boast leaping Jaguar motifs.
In pictures published with the automaker’s Aug. 12 release, it is clear that the simplification of the interior seeks to hide its technology to enhance the premium environment.
Jaguar said the design concept of the brass‑inspired colored central spine accentuates the “longitudinal nature of the design.”
The driver will have a low seating position, providing the feeling that the cabin cossets the pilot, according to Jaguar.
A digital ClearSight Rear View Display replaces the normal rearview mirror because, as with the Polestar 4 model, there is no rear window. This digital screen is placed centrally at the base of the windshield, at the same height as the door mirrors, to help maintain the driver’s focus.
Other technology, such as the infotainment system, is kept hidden in concealed compartments until it is required to enhance the clean lines of the interior.
“In contrast to the horizontal interior design norm, we emphasize its dramatic longitudinal nature through the central spine — an architectural statement that creates four individual spaces,” said Thomas Holden, Jaguar’s chief interior designer.
The Jaguar Type 01 prototype will first debut in the U.S. with a special wrap for Monterey Car Week before the model’s official launch in New York on Oct. 6.
