Dive Insight:
CarBravo, which GM launched in June 2022 to grow its used vehicle sales, is a digital platform that aggregates pre-owned inventory vehicle inventory at various price points from participating GM dealers. The online marketplace allows customers to browse, finance and arrange at-home test drives and delivery, where available. CarBravo also offers non-GM vehicles for sale, as many of the automaker's dealers sell other makes and models.
The CarBravo online car-shopping platform was announced by GM in January 2022 and launched as a pilot program with a small number of dealers before expanding nationwide. Vehicles sold on the platform undergo a thorough inspection, giving customers the information they need before making a purchase, per the release.
“In a crowded used-car market, we believe transparency, convenience and protection all go hand-in-hand,” GM said in the release. “CarBravo is designed to deliver on those tenets — and to raise expectations for the customer experience around buying and owning a used vehicle.”
Unlike other online vehicle sales platforms like CarMax and Carvana, CarBravo’s vehicle warranty repairs can be performed at one of over 4,000 GM dealerships nationwide, providing customers with added convenience to address any future service or maintenance needs.
The updated warranties on vehicles sold online by CarBravo come as more car shoppers today expect an omnichannel experience when purchasing a new or used vehicle that includes a mix of online and in-person activities. Carvana, for example, expects to post sales of over 500,000 used cars and trucks in 2025, following record unit sales and revenues in Q3 of last year. Carvana’s Q3 revenue was up 54.5% year over year to a record high of $5.65 billion, indicating the growth potential of online vehicle sales.
The CarBravo platform is also a way for GM to reach more price-conscious car shoppers online and boost its competitiveness in the used vehicle market, especially at a time when the average price of a new vehicle reached a record high of over $50,000 in September 2025.
GM is not alone in its efforts to boost online sales of used vehicles. In November, Ford Motor Co. announced it will begin selling used vehicles on the Amazon Autos online car-buying platform, joining Hyundai Motor. Customers can browse a participating Ford dealer’s inventory of Ford Blue Advantage CPO vehicles on Amazon Autos within a 75-mile radius, apply for financing, complete the purchase paperwork online and arrange for in-person pickup.
