Toyota Increases Production Capacity in China

The Toyota JV begins production of the high-grade Land Cruiser Prado VX at its Chengdu Plant, which also makes the Land Cruiser Prado GX.

Toyota Motor Corp. adds a second version of the Land Cruiser Prado into the mix at Sichuan FAW Toyota Motor Co. Ltd., a joint venture with FAW Group Corp. in China.

The year-old JV begins production of the high-grade Land Cruiser Prado VX at its Chengdu plant, which also makes the Land Cruiser Prado GX.

Until now, Land Cruiser VXs sold in China were imported from Japan.

All of the Chinese-built vehicles will be sold in the local market.

The move raises Sichuan FAW Toyota’s overall annual production capacity from 20,000 units to 23,000 units.

Toyota’s total vehicle production capacity in China now stands at 343,000 units annually.
