Southern California car dealer Robert H. Tuttle is the new U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

President George Bush nominated him to the prestigious diplomatic post. The Senate confirmed the appointment.

“We know Bob Tuttle will do a great job representing our country's interests in Europe,” says Peter Welch, president of the California Motor Car Dealers Assn. “He is a sterling example of a dealer that has not only earned the trust and loyalty of his franchisors, employees and customers, but also his government.”

Tuttle, a familiar face in California politics and auto retailing, is co-managing partner of Tuttle-Click Automotive Group, one of the largest dealerships in the nation. He previously served as assistant to the President and director for Presidential personnel to President Ronald Reagan.
