Qualcomm announces two new automaker partnerships together with the extension of its Snapdragon Digital Chassis platform to include 2-wheelers, micro-mobility and other motorized segments.

The digital Tier 1 supplier announces at the IAA Mobility 2023 in Munich, Germany, that new commercial partnerships have been formed with Jaguar Land Rover  and Mercedes-Benz.

With JLR, the company will bring 5G capabilities to various vehicles across the automaker’s Range Rover, Defender, Discovery and Jaguar brands. The Snapdragon Auto 5G Modem-RF, a key component of the Snapdragon Digital Chassis, aims to create luxury in-vehicle experiences.

The system claims ultra-high speeds and ultra-low latency and the selected JLR vehicles will offer 5G connectivity and connected services for highly personalized in-vehicle experiences, as well as advanced safety and mobility. JLR vehicles featuring the latest Snapdragon hardware and 5G connectivity are expected on the road in 2025.

Qualcomm’s partnership with Mercedes-Benz includes Snapdragon Digital Chassis solutions for  the ’23 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan. The latest generation of Snapdragon Cockpit Platforms will power the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class User Experience (MBUX) multimedia system running on the new MBUX Superscreen, claiming enhanced graphics and multimedia support.

The hardware will also help power the MBUX’s high-resolution widescreen unit, navigational display and augmented-reality technology. The platform’s pre-integrated support for Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 will feature in-vehicle wireless connectivity, including hotspot and high-speed gaming.

Meanwhile, responding to increased demand for motorcycles, scooters, e-bikes and a range of new vehicle classes, Qualcomm is introducing new product editions to its Snapdragon Digital Chassis lineup for a wide range of small-vehicle platforms. Known as the QWM2290 and QWS2290 platforms, the new products are meant to deliver enhanced safety, infotainment, cloud-connected digital services and personalization in the micro-mobility arena.

Applicable vehicles for these new platforms include electric and internal-combustion-engine motorcycles; 3-wheelers; e-bikes; kick scooters; 3- and 4-wheel all-terrain vehicles (ATVs); and shared-mobility e-scooters and e-bikes.
