Each year’s pool of nominees -- this year there were 34 -- consists of every all-new or significantly improved engine or electric propulsion system available in production vehicles in the U.S. with an MSRP below $64,000. WardsAuto editors met with several automakers to discuss technical details of their entries. Test drives were conducted on public roads.
