Hyundai releases photographs and some specs of its second-generation i10 small car, a volume-builder since its world debut in 2008.
The modestly restyled and upgraded model will debut at next month’s Paris auto show, but will not go into production until the end of this year for a European sales launch sometime early in 2017.
Calling it “the new i10,” Thomas Schmid, chief operating officer-Hyundai Motor Europe, says in a statement the revised model “showcases great build quality with our passion for details, while also including many features from the segments above it.
“The excellent total package representing great value has made the i10 one of the best-selling cars in its class and popular with customers across Europe – a success story that the new i10 is set to carry on.”
The design modification and development evolution continues to come from the Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center in Russelsheim, Germany, with inputs and overall management from Hyundai’s technical center in Namyang, Korea.
Midcycle changes include a new front-bumper design with LED daytime running lights on the outer edges of a new cascading grille, giving it what Hyundai calls “an emotional look.”
It also features newly designed 14-in. steel or alloy wheels and redesigned side body moldings.
Interior colors of beige, black, blue, orange and red are available in all trim levels.
Hyundai continues to tout the next-generation i10 as having features well above its class, including front-collision and lane-departure warning systems, automatic air conditioning, heated steering wheel and front-seat warmers, 7-in. (18-cm) touchscreen navigation, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
The updated model continues to offer 1.0L 3-cyl., 65-hp and Kappa 1.25L 4-cyl., 87-hp gasoline engines and an optional 1.0L 3-cyl. 80-hp liquid-propane gas variant. A 4-speed manual transmission is standard and 4-speed automatic is optional. The steering-gear ratio has been modified for better handling performance.
Assembled by Hyundai Assan Otomotive Sanayi in Izmit, Turkey, the i10 has sold 670,000 units since its original launch in 2008.
