Next-Gen Enclave Powers Buick’s U.S. Growth Push

Buick shows a preview of the next-generation Enclave CUV as its U.S. sales are on the upswing, while its normally strong China business is slipping.

Redesigned Enclave could further boost Buick’s U.S. sales.

General Motors’ Buick brand has previewed its Enclave CUV, inspired by the Wildcat EV concept car shown in June 2022 and due in showrooms later this year.

Though Buick sales have lagged in the U.S., while its China business has remained strong, the tables are turning. The 125-year-old brand was the fastest-growing “mainstream” nameplate in the U.S. in 2023, up 61% to 166,852, while the brand’s historically strong China business fell 20% to 517,000.

“2024 promises more big things for Buick, spearheaded by the launch of the next-generation Enclave,” says Duncan Aldred, global vice president of Buick and GMC. “With this first glimpse of the next-generation Enclave, the flagship of our lineup, we’re continuing to lead with design, technology and Buick’s unique premium persona.”

Buick sales grew last year on the strength of new-product introductions in volume segments. The Encore CUV and new Envista 5-door were all-new in 2023, with the Envista being an all-new model priced around $30,000. Encore had a 92% sales increase, while Envision sales were up 71% and Enclave sales rose 29%. Buick says nearly 70% of Envista’s buyers in year one were new to the Buick brand.

Despite the Wildcat concept being an EV, Buick has yet to introduce an all-electric EV in the U.S. It does sell EVs in China.
