Volkswagen Reveals ID.7 Station Wagon Variant

ID.7 Tourer to sit alongside ICE offering of Volkswagen Passat Estate.

Volkswagen adds a station wagon version of its flagship battery-electric vehicle model dubbed the ID.7 Tourer.

The automaker says it will sit beside the internal-combustion-engine and hybrid powertrains of its Volkswagen Passat Estate sibling. The new ID.7 Tourer claims long WLTP ranges of up to 425 miles (684 km) with the bigger of two battery pack options, a high-quality driver cockpit, and superior comfort and passenger space.

Thanks to the increased height at the rear, the cargo compartment volume is larger than the existing fastback sedan offering 605 liters of cargo space with all seats in place for five occupants. Rear seats folded liberates up to 1,714 liters of carrying capacity.

The ID.7 Tourer’s largest battery is designed for a maximum charging capacity of up to 200 kW at DC quick-charging stations. At this power level, the battery can be recharged from 10% to 80% in less than 30 minutes.

The station wagon will be launched with an augmented-reality (AR) head-up display equipped as standard. This projects information relevant to the journey into the driver’s field of vision. At the same time the AR display changes the cockpit architecture, allowing classic instruments to become compact.

Special comfort features include air vents automatically operated by small control motors, ergoActive seats with a pressure-point massage function and automatic air conditioning. Smart glass is used on the panoramic sunroof where the glass layers can be electronically switched to be either opaque or clear.

It also has a new Wellness In-Car app which allows various vehicle functions to be adjusted via three preconfigured programs (Fresh Up, Calm Down and Power Break) which can help enhance well-being during the journey or breaks. Depending on the vehicle equipment, the app accesses the background lighting, sound, air conditioning, smart glass function, seat air conditioning and seat massage as well as the ID.Light and the infotainment screen.

The ID.7 Tourer will be produced together with the ID.7 fastback sedan and the ID.4 SUV at the electric mobility plant in Emden, Germany. Europe-wide presales are scheduled to start in the first quarter of this year.
