Toyota Plants in Turkey, France Vying for New CUV

The head of Toyota Turkey says the new vehicle will be built either locally at Adapazari or at Toyota France’s plant near Valenciennes.

VIENNA – Toyota plans to add a new cross/utility vehicle to its production portfolio in Europe, Turkish media report.

The Toyota Motor Mfg. Turkey plant in Adapazari, Turkey, is a candidate for the new model.

“Toyota will choose between Adapazari and its French plant for the production of new crossover-type vehicle,” Toyota Turkey CEO Orhan Ozer is quoted as saying. The auto maker will announce its decision within a month, he says.

Toyota Turkey currently builds the Toyota Verso. It will launch volume production of the European version of the new Corolla sedan in early July.

The Japanese auto maker’s French subsidiary manufactures the Yaris compact car. The Toyota Motor Mfg. France plant, locatedin Onnaing near Valenciennes, started Yaris exports to the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico last month.
