Audi Taps Cognata for Autonomous-Vehicle Simulation Tool

Cognata says its testing solution leverages artificial intelligence, deep learning and computer vision in a highly realistic simulation environment that recreates cities and roadways from around the world and mimics real-world traffic conditions.

Cognata, a Rehovot, Israel-based software developer, lands a contract to serve as the autonomous-vehicle simulation partner to Audi subsidiary Autonomous Intelligent Driving.

Cognata says its testing solution leverages artificial intelligence, deep learning and computer vision in a highly realistic simulation environment that recreates cities and roadways from around the world and mimics real-world traffic conditions.

The developer will provide AID with its cloud-based end-to-end simulation technology and support the development of its autonomous vehicle through its entire product lifecycle.

AID is building a test fleet of autonomous vehicles and developing the full software stack to be used. The project initially is aimed at mobility service vehicles for urban environments, but the AID software eventually is expected to be used as a standard platform for all Audi vehicles and those from other Volkswagen Group brands, including Porsche.

“We are extremely honored to have been selected by AID, a leading player in the autonomous-vehicles space,” Cognata CEO Danny Atsmon says. “Thorough simulation is a critical and integral part of safely preparing autonomous vehicles for the road, and we look forward to a long-term collaboration with AID.”
