PARIS – Everyday practicality coupled with the latest high-tech infotainment suite and even a portable electric scooter or bicycle are the major sales pitches being made by Peugeot’s new 5008 fullsize SUV to be unveiled at this month’s Paris auto show.

The 7-seater, aimed at the premium C-segment, also will have two sports-orientated models in the shape of GT and GT Line variants.

With a 111.8-in. (2,840-mm) wheelbase and 182.7-in. (4,640-mm) overall length the new 5008 is just 4.3 ins. (110 mm) longer than the 5008 MPV on which it is based, making it one of the most compact fullsize SUVs to hit the market.

The new vehicle employs the same Efficient Modular Platform 2 (EMP2) as the 308 and the new 3008 SUV and employs Euro 6.1-compliant powertrains. The French manufacturer is claiming performance and fuel efficiency will be class-leading for both gasoline and diesel engines, with carbon-dioxide emissions rated as low as 117 g/km for the gasoline engines and 108 g/km for the diesel in U.K. specification.

Technology includes the latest version of Peugeot’s i-Cockpit, which an 8-in. (20-cm) touchscreen combines with a 12.3-in. (31-cm) high-definition digital display for superior graphics and animations.

Also inside are body-hugging front seats featuring an optional multipoint massage system, a premium sound system and a retractable panoramic glass sunroof.

Advanced driver assistance features include traction control with hill start-assist, automatic emergency braking, distance alert, lane assist, driver attention warning, smart beam headlamps, speed-sign recognition and suggestion, adaptive cruise control with stop feature on automatic-transmission versions, blindspot monitoring and park assist with a 360-degree exterior camera system.

A particular novelty is a trunk-mounted electrically assisted folding scooter or electric portable bicycle, both including a mobile charging docking station.

Manufactured in Rennes, France, the new Peugeot 5008 SUV goes on sale in Europe next spring.
