Renault and Geely are boosting their Brazil joint venture vehicle manufacturing business with a further 2 billion Brazilian reais ($389 million) investment, the pair announced on Sept. 15.
The move ups the total investment into the partnership to 5.8 billion reais since the JV’s inception in 2025. The added investment will aid production of a new electrified Renault branded model, based on Geely’s GEA (Global Intelligent Electric Architecture) platform, planned to come to market in 2027.
“Through a win-win partnership, we are accelerating the arrival of electrified, competitive and affordable vehicles, made for Brazilian customers, as well as reinforcing Renault’s international growth ambitions,” Fabrice Cambolive, chairman of the board of Renault Geely of Brazil and CEO Renault Brand, said in a statement in Portuguese.
Geely will also have its electric vehicle EX2 hatchback built at the JV’s Renault Geely of Brazil Ayrton Senna Industrial Complex in São José dos Pinhais, Paraná, starting this December.
The production facility was upgraded early this year to be able to create vehicles with most powertrains, including internal combustion engines, hybrid, hybrid-flex and EVs, according to the press release.
On top of the investment, the companies have confirmed the start of production of the Renault Hybrid E-Tech 4x4 flex fuel biofuel-capable technology in Brazil in 2027.
“Brazil is a highly strategic market in our global presence,” Victor Yang, senior vice president of Geely Holding Group, said in a statement in Portuguese. “Our accumulated investments demonstrate our absolute commitment to introducing our cutting-edge technologies, including the GEA architecture, to lead the new energy transition in Latin America,” he added.
