Renault will roll out its ‘futuREady’ business strategy to India, which will become one of its global technology hubs.
The French automaker group said in an April 16 statement that it expects its production facility in Chennai to generate €2 billion ($2.3 billion) in annual exports by 2030 in vehicles, R&D and components.
Renault also hopes India’s rate of growth will make it among the top three markets for the brand by the end of the decade, sporting a total of seven group models following the launch in January of the Renault Duster.
As part of the futuREady announcements, the group also presented the Bridger Concept, which previews a new B-segment compact SUV with multi-energy powertrains, including an electric version.
Vehicles platforms for India include A-segment models built on the Renault Group Entry Platform and B- and C-segment models using the group’s Modular Platform, both are designed for multi-energy powertrains, including ICE, hybrid and fully-electric.
The group’s enginnering center in Chennai is one of the automaker’s largest worldwide and employs about 6,000 specialists focused on vehicle architecture, software and simulation. Renault aims to swell the ranks to 15,000 when the facility is fully up and running as a global production hub, it said.
“Thirty years ago, Renault Group began its first wave of international expansion,” said Renault CEO François Provost in a company statement. “With futuREady, we are opening a new era in our global growth story – and India will be at the heart of it.”
