Media reports are emerging that Nissan is planning to slash another 10,000 jobs from its operations worldwide as it struggles to cut costs and bring the business back to profitability.
Japan’s public broadcaster, NHK, reports the additional job cuts now bring the total of staff reductions to 20,000 or 15% of the automaker’s total global workforce.
The cuts are expected to be confirmed when Nissan publishes full-year results Tuesday, May 13.
Nissan last month warned it would probably book a record net loss of between 700 billion yen to 750 billion yen ($4.74 billion to $5.08 billion) in the financial year that ended in March because of impairment charges.
Reuters reports the company has yet to comment on the news of job cuts.
