Lotus tunes up the Emira Turbo SE model as part of its revised lineup which includes the former range-topping Emira V-6.
In fact, the Lotus Emira Turbo SE, claiming 405 hp maximum power output achieved from a 2.0L inline turbocharged gasoline engine, shades that of its supercharged 3.5L V-6 sibling with 400 hp.
It also boasts slightly more torque with 354 lb.-ft. (480 Nm) against 317 lb.-ft. (430 Nm) for the V-6. Claimed performance includes a 0-to-62 mph (100 km/h) sprint time of 4.0 seconds on the way to a top speed of 180 mph (290 km/h).
This model is a homage to the Lotus Turbo SE of the 1980s that saw the brand stand toe-to-toe with iconic sports brands of the day like Ferrari and Lamborghini but at a fraction of the price.
SE originally stood for the optional ‘Special Equipment’ package, first introduced on the Type 14 Elite. It was also used with the Type 26 Elan, Elan SE Turbo, Lotus Cortina and the Elan S3, Elan S4 and Plus 2.
It also became the moniker to identify higher output and more standard equipment, with the Esprit Turbo SE, Excel SE, Elan SE and the Europa SE as examples of that philosophy.
The new Turbo SE comes with the Lotus Drivers Pack as standard including Sports suspension settings, uprated cross-drilled and ventilated 2-piece brake discs and launch control as standard.
In addition to performance enhancements the Emira Turbo SE also features a variety of core design features including newly finished 20-in. V-spoke forged Satin Grey wheels as standard as well as Zinc Grey paint, Alcantara headliner, red brake calipers, new ‘Emira Turbo SE’ badging, new black Lotus branding and black Lotus badging and tailpipes.
The model can be ordered in selected markets with prices starting from £89,500 ($113,266).
