The U.S. District Court in San Francisco has approved a $68 million settlement of a class-action suit against Nissan Motor Acceptance Corp., in which owners of repossessed vehicles said they were asked for payments unlawfully.

Plaintiff Yvonne Moultrie claimed the Nissan Motor Co. subsidiary said she still owed payments after her car was repossessed in 1998. The suit was filed on behalf of about 16,000 other debtors whose vehicles were repossessed.

Ms. Moultrie's attorney alleged that Nissan Motor Acceptance furnished insufficient notice about post-repossession financial obligations.
