When the 2000 DeVille hits showrooms this November, Cadillac dealers will be able to boast selling one of the most technologically advanced and safest vehicles in the world.
Backing those claims are the DeVille's night vision, ultrasonic rear parking assist, on-board navigation and On-Star communication features. Add to that the light-emitting diode (LED) taillight and center high-mounted stoplight combination, a redesigned Northstar V-8 and the next generation of the StabiliTrak traction control and variable road sensing suspension systems.
Other safety features include front and side airbags for front-seat passengers and "child-friendly" side-impact airbags for rear-seat occupants.
The DeVille will be available in three models - DeVille, DHS (DeVille high-luxury sedan) and the DTS (DeVille touring sedan).
"The DTS is our reach-out car," says John Smith, Cadillac's general manager. "With the most aggressive ride and handling characteristics and innovative technology, the DTS has the credentials to legitimately compete with the finest luxury cars in the world."
DeVille and DHS will appeal to customers who crave luxury and a more-smooth ride.
Dave Whitaker, DeVille's vehicle line executive, says he can't reveal the new car's price, but says "it will not represent a significant change."
Cadillac's first vehicle for the new millenium will be produced at GM's Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant and have annual capacity of approximately 100,000 units. "We will be able to produce as many as last year, which is about 100,000, and can build more," says Mr. Whitaker.
"I can't tell you how many people have seen and driven this car and told me 'I never considered a DeVille before, but I can definitely see myself in this car,'" says Pat Kemp, DeVille's brand manager. "We think our dealers are going to be hearing that a lot, starting this fall."
