Even BEVs like the Maserati Grecale Folgore is 100% Italian.

In line with increasing "on-shoring" moves by governments and manufacturers alike, Maserati is claiming it has reached the gold standard of its cars being 100% designed, developed and built in its Italian home.

The first Italian luxury brand to develop and produce battery-electric vehicles has been housed at its historic plant on Viale Ciro Menotti in Modena for more than 80 years.

It says it is committed to an electric future starting with its first two BEV vehicles, identified by the moniker Folgore, with the GranTurismo Folgore and Grecale Folgore already on sale in Europe.

A third, the Maserati GranCabrio Folgore, is due to be launched this year following its internal-combustion-engine version. The road to electrification will continue with the new MC20 Folgore in 2025, a large electric SUV in 2027 and the next generation of Quattroporte BEV in 2028.

Davide Grasso, Maserati CEO, says: “Driven by our Modena heart, we are going full throttle to lead change on electrification, with two of our iconic models already available for purchase in their 100% electric versions, and another on the way this year. We will offer our preferred customers the most powerful Maseratis ever, pushing the boundaries of driving pleasure to a new era.”
