CHICAGO – The Chicago Auto Show will open to the public next week in the midst of a down market, with a net gain of five more exhibitors this year than last.

The expanded roster runs counter to what has been going on at several other auto shows worldwide, including the recent North American International Auto Show in Detroit, which saw several long-time exhibitors pull out.

Brands missing last year but on hand with displays at the Chicago show this year will be Smart, Lamborghini, Lotus, Rolls-Royce, Spyker, Ferrari and Maserati.

Somewhat ironic is that at a time when auto shows are spotlighting fuel-efficient, energy-saving machines, none of the cars added for this year, except for Smart, are known for their high mileage – or low price.

Missing from Chicago will be Porsche and International Truck, neither brand known for its high mileage or low price.
