GM to Cut Shift at Oshawa Truck Plant

General Motors Corp. will cut one of three shifts at its Oshawa, ON, Canada, fullsize pickup plant, a result of slumping sales.

The shift elimination, slated for January, will affect 1,100 of the plant’s 3,600 hourly workers and 55 of 300 salaried employees.

Current line rates will be maintained, but capacity at the Oshawa plant, which produces the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups, goes from 300,000 units annually to 210,000 with the reduction to two shifts, a spokesman says.
