Mexico LV Sales Records Fall in November

With the Mexican light-vehicle market showing no signs of an imminent slowdown, more sales records fell in November as dealers pushed the year-to-date volume to a third consecutive annual benchmark of 1,409,519 units.

That bested by 4.4% the 1,350,099 cars and light trucks sold in all of 2015. And with December, usually among the strongest months for LV sales, still in play, 2016 sales are expected to reach some 1.6 million units.

Both cars and light trucks posted record sales in the 11-month period, with cars setting a record for the second year in a row at 923,757 units.

Light truck deliveries totaled a record 485,752 units, 3.0% higher than the prior all-time annual high of 471,502 set in 2015.

November alone saw LV deliveries hit a record 154,417 vehicles at an average of 6,177 on each of 25 selling days. That was 7.7% higher than prior-year’s 22-day rate of 5,733 on volume of 126,123 vehicles.

It also was the second-highest volume for any month in history, trailing the record 160,538 deliveries chalked up in December last year by just 3.8%.

Both cars and light trucks broke November sales records, and unlike Mexico’s neighbor to the North, cars increased their share of the volume to 65.5% from 63.6% a year earlier. The November car share was the same as that for the 11-momnth period.
