Fiat Poland Plant Ahead of 2013 Production Forecast

VIENNA – Fiat Poland expects production to decline less than originally expected at its plant in Tychy, Poland, this year.
Plans call for output of about 290,000 units in 2013, plant director Antoni Gren tells local media during a family day event for employees. That would be 17% below the 2012 total of 348,503. But earlier forecasts called for about 255,000 assemblies this year.
The facility’s production record is 605,797 units, set in 2009.
Plant officials are hoping Fiat will decide soon about building a new model at Tychy. “We are yearning for it,” Gren is quoted as saying by the Polish news agency PAP.
The Fiat plant in Tychy, which employs about 3,450 workers,manufactured 200,719 cars this year through August. The total comprises nearly 115,200 Fiat 500 models, more than 42,300 Lancia Ypsilon units; almost 5,300 Abarth 500 cars; and some 37,900 Ford Ka units built for Ford.
According to PAP, negotiations to extend production of the Ford Ka in Poland by one year, to the end of 2016, are under way.
