FCA US Posts 7.6% Sales Increase in May, Despite Drops by Fiat, Dodge

FCA US posted a 7.6% increase on a daily basis in May vs. year-ago to 200,794 units, marking the automaker’s best May result since 2005.

The Chrysler, Jeep and Ram brands had exceptional performances, with sales gains of 29.8%, 17.8% and 14.6%, respectively.

Among Chrysler-branded vehicles, the 200 midsize sedan was a standout with a 561.6% increase to 20,007 units, the model’s best-ever monthly sales gain and the largest year-over-year percentage increase of any FCA US vehicle in the month.

Three Jeeps set sales record in May, including the Cherokee and Wrangler which posted gains of 27.7% and 20.5%, respectively. The Patriot rounded out the group with a 35.8% jump vs. year-ago to 10,782 units.

Sales of the Ram pickup increased 9.8% last month to 38,519 units, the truck’s best May in 11 years. The Ram ProMaster commercial van recorded a 155.4% increase, its best May performance since the model launched in October 2013.

Fiat and Dodge did not fare as well in May, posting decreases of 16% and 18.8%, respectively. Despite the slide, the Dart enjoyed a 4.1% increase to 8,667 units, its best-ever May performance, while Fiat remains hopeful the recently launched 500X CUV will reverse its fortunes.

FCA US closed the month with 540,509 units in inventory, which translates to a 69-day supply.
