Omoda Brings Flagship BEV to Europe Next Year

Another Chinese electric-vehicle maker targets the European market with its premium product.

The latest Chinese battery-electric-vehicle maker to target expansion into Europe is Omoda, which is promising to begins sales of its Omoda 5 following its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show in Doha, Qatar.

This flagship model in its lineup offers customers a choice of four trim levels each claiming segment-leading standard equipment and a suite of advanced driver assistance and safety systems. A wide range of customization is also available.

The vehicle is equipped with a 61-kWh battery, providing the electric motor with 204 hp driving the front wheels. It claims a range of 280 miles (451 km) on a single charge. The battery is capable of accepting a 110-kW rapid charging at up to 220V and will charge from 0% to 80% in 30 minutes.

In line with most BEV offerings these days, it features three driving modes, eco, comfort, and sport which claims a 0-to-62 mph (100 km/h) sprint time of 7.6 seconds. It is set to arrive in European showrooms in March 2024.

The automaker, based in Wuhu, Anhui Province, intends to introduce two additional electrified SUV models in Europe by 2025. These include a larger O9 model with plug-in hybrid and internal-combustion options and a smaller O3 with BEV, PHEV and ICE powertrain options.
