Alfa Romeo confirms its Milano CUV is in final stages of development, with validation tests currently being conducted at the automaker’s Balocco test track in northern Italy ahead of a planned unveiling for the new model on April 10.
Positioned below the Tonale CUV launched in 2022, the Milano is set to return Alfa Romeo to the B-segment class in global markets for the first time since production of its Mito hatchback was discontinued in 2019.
With a length of around 162.0 ins. (2,311 mm), the Milano shares parent company Stellantis’ E-CMP platform with the Jeep Avenger and Fiat 600e, alongside which it will be produced at a factory in Tychy, Poland.
Together with a mild-hybrid system combining a turbocharged 1.2L gasoline 3-cyl. engine and electric motor developing 99 hp, the Milano also will offer an all-electric drivetrain with a front-mounted electric motor providing 154 hp.
Along with standard front-wheel drive, Alfa Romeo confirms its entry-level CUV will feature an optional all-wheel-drive layout, suggesting it will be the first E-CMP platform-based model to feature an electric motor on the rear axle in an expected Milano line-topping Quadrifoglio performance model.
Both the Avenger and 600e use a front-motor, front-wheel-drive layout in current models.
The adoption of all-wheel drive is to ensure “best-in-class dynamics” with “quick cornering and a high level of grip,” the Italian automaker says.
The Milano name was last used by Alfa Romeo on a North American-market version of the 75 sedan produced between 1985 and 1992.
