Ford Expedition Gets EcoBoost Engine, Platinum Edition

New continuously controlled damping makes Expedition the only Blue Oval-branded vehicle in the U.S. with three selectable drive modes.

The ’15 Ford Expedition fullsize SUV will receive a 3.5L direct-injected twin-turbo EcoBoost V-6 as its standard engine, replacing the aging 5.4L V-8.

Ford has yet to release official horsepower and torque figures for the new Expedition mill, but in the F-150 pickup the 3.5L EcoBoost V-6 makes 365 hp and 420 lb.-ft. (569 Nm) of torque.

The Expedition for the first time gets Ford’s MyFord Touch infotainment system, push-button start and a blindspot detection system.

Other new technologies on the ’15 Expedition include a 10-speaker sound system, rearview camera, LED lighting and apps designed to make trailer towing and off-road driving easier.

New continuously controlled damping, available for the first time on a Ford nameplate, makes Expedition the only Blue Oval-branded vehicle in the U.S. with three selectable drive modes – comfort, normal and sport.

For improved handling, the new SUV receives an independent rear suspension. The setup also allows for a fold-flat third-row bench seat.

A top-end Platinum trim level debuts on the ’15 Expedition, joining the XLT and Limited editions.

The Platinum series features Brunello leather seats in either a red wine color with tuxedo-stripe accents or black leather with gray trim.

The Expedition’s exterior has been updated with an all-new front end featuring LED fog lamps, a redesigned rear hatch and chrome-tipped exhaust pipes.
