Stellantis has opened the order books for its midcycle-refreshed Jeep Avenger compact SUV, which boasts plenty of new features.
The new Avenger, the Jeep brand’s top-selling model in Europe, hopes to build upon the 270,000 units sold to date, 60% of them with electrified powertrains, Stellantis reported in a May 13 press release.
And to celebrate the Jeep brand’s 85th birthday, a special edition is being offered on launch, boasting bumpers and wheels finished in gold and a retro tartan cloth interior upholstery.
The model offers a range of powertrains including gasoline, hybrid, electric and plug-in hybrid, all in either front-wheel or all-wheel drive.
The one completely new powertrain choice for the Avenger is a new Turbo 100 gasoline engine paired with a six-speed manual transmission. The 1.2-liter, three-cylinder engine delivers a maximum power output of 101 hp at 5,500 rpm and 205 Newton meters of torque from 1,750 rpm.
The engine’s variable‑geometry turbocharger adjusts for low-rev engine speeds for urban driving and at highway speeds to deliver more power for passing maneuvers.
The engine is fitted with a timing chain with greater durability to reduce maintenance costs, with a replacement interval of every two years or 25,000 kilometers compared to the previous schedule of every 20,000 km.
Standard features on the new Jeep Avenger include full-LED front lights, automatic high beam, keyless start, cruise control and automatic air conditioning.
Its 10.25-inch infotainment system display comes with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, customizable interface and over-the-air update capability.
The Jeep Mobile app allows users to locate their car, lock and unlock the doors, check the battery level, program the battery charge and activate climate controls directly from a smartphone.
New exterior features include redesigned 17-inch and 18-inch alloy wheels, either painted or diamond-cut, and wheelcaps that display a stylized Jeep Willys profile.
An additional front camera gives the Avenger a 360° view that simplifies parking maneuvers and protects the vehicle from minor damage.
“Designed and manufactured in Europe, it opens a new chapter: new features, more updates, and the exclusive 85th Anniversary Special Edition make it the most compelling Avenger yet,” said Fabio Catone, head of Jeep Brand in enlarged Europe.
Prices and delivery times have yet to be announced.
