Premium electric vehicle maker Polestar claims a record third-quarter sales performance despite the impending ban on its sales of new vehicles in the U.S.
The automaker, sister brand with the Geely-owned Volvo Group, reports global retail sales of 14,371 cars and another record figure of 44,790 cars in the first nine months of 2026, Polestar’s Oct. 8 release states.
Its quarterly increase of 1% and 0.6% year-to-date increase from a year ago comes as the automaker wraps up sales in the U.S. It faces a ban on the sale of its vehicles in the U.S. from model year 2027 on, after the Commerce Department withdrew its sales authorization in an effort to block connected-vehicle technology linked to China or Russia.
The brand reported 2,160 retail sales in the U.S. in Q3, although Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller recently confirmed to Reuters that as of the end of the quarter its U.S. stock was nearly sold off. Polestar has said that it will continue selling used vehicles, including those under its CPO program.
“We delivered our best third quarter despite increasingly challenging market conditions,” said Polestar’s CEO Michael Lohscheller in a company statement. “The start of Polestar 5 customer deliveries marks an important milestone for the company, while the new Polestar 4 SUV broadens our product portfolio and extends our reach to new customer groups entering the D-SUV segment, the largest and most dynamic segment in the European premium EV market,” he added.
