Ford Motor Co. brings production of Mexican-built Mercury Tracer station wagons to the U.S. temporarily while it begins retooling its Hermosillo, Mexico, plant to build all-new '97 Ford Escorts and Tracers. Tracer wagons started production at the Wayne, MI, Escort plant on Nov. 6., the same day the facility began building '96 models. Wayne already underwent preliminary tooling for the '97 Escort in August and September and begins production of the new vehicle in March. Tracer wagon production will resume south of the border in March or April when the Mexican plant begins '97-model Escort/Tracer output.
