MAN Truck & Bus claims to have slashed its carbon-dioxide emissions more than 25% throughout its global production plants.
The commercial-vehicle manufacturer says it has invested about €40 million ($45 million) to reduce emissions of the greenhouse gas by more than 100,000 tons a year, or the equivalent to those produced by a small town.
Leading the climate-conscious charge is its photovoltaic system which has enabled MAN’s production plant in Pinetown, South Africa, to become the manufacturer’s first climate-neutral factory. Other projects saw new lighting concepts and energy-saving air conditioning using well water.
The combined heat and power plants at the production sites in Munich reduced CO2 emissions by 9,500 tons, and by 4,000 tons at Starachowice in Poland.
Michael Kobriger, executive board member for production and logistics at MAN Truck & Bus, says: “This is a huge success that our project team has driven forward with exceptional commitment across the board – and we are proud of it. As an industrial player, we have a responsibility to protect the environment and combat climate change.”
