Exotic car maker Bugatti confirms plans to expand its headquarters in Molsheim, France, in an investment program it says will “support the development of new models beyond the era of the Chiron.”
Among the changes planned for the headquarters site is the construction of a new two-story building adjacent to the existing Atelier where the Chiron, costing $3 million and up, is assembled.
Set for construction during the second half of 2024, the 22,820 sq.-ft. (2,120 sq.-m) building is to accommodate new staff and further development projects, including what Bugatti describes as its first “hypersports” model under majority owner Rimac Group.
The new Bugatti model, already under development, is expected to draw on Rimac’s electric drivetrain expertise with performance beyond the 1,555-hp, quad-turbocharged, gasoline-powered 8.0L W-16 Chiron Super Sport (pictured, below).
The expansion of existing facilities will also support ongoing programs such as the production of the Bolide and W16 Mistral, says Bugatti.
“The construction of this new building at our home in Molsheim is aligned with the brand and product expansion,” Bugatti President Christophe Piochon says.
Bugatti has begun a recruitment campaign to attract new employees. Plans are to increase the workforce at Molsheim by 50% by the end of 2027.
Bugatti delivered more cars in 2022 than the company ever has before. One of the smallest car companies in the world, it delivered 80 cars, exactly the number it announced it would earlier in the year. Every car is hand-built, so sales are easy to predict because they build off preorders.
