While Peugeot has unveiled its all-electric e-3008 to replace the existing successful compact SUV model, it won’t be ditching ICE powertrains just yet.
That’s because this third-generation model will also feature two hybrid options in the shape of a self-charging hybrid and a plug-in hybrid, albeit these will follow at a later date. So, in line with many other automakers right now, the brand is hedging its bets that BEV adoption will accelerate and is sticking to its 2030 deadline to turn completely into a BEV-maker.
The new vehicle will be available with two trim levels, Allure and GT, with three all-electric powertrains:
- 210bhp/157kW Standard Range
- 230bhp/170kW Long Range
- 320bhp/240kW Dual Motor providing all-wheel drive
It will be the brand’s first model to use Stellantis’ STLA Medium electric powertrain, claiming a range up to 435 miles, for the Long Range model, and a recharge time of from 20 to 80% in 30 minutes from a 160kW charger. The STLA Medium platform comprises a permanent magnet synchronous motor operating in tandem with an electric gearbox powered by a 400V lithium-ion battery.
The car also features a V2L (Vehicle to Load) function, giving customers the option of powering an electrical device via the car’s high-voltage battery. The system can supply up to 3kW and 16A. The V1G or Smart Charging function can also adjust the time and power at which the battery of the vehicle is charged where lower tariffs are available overnight. It will be manufactured exclusively at the Sochaux plant in France and will be on sale from February 2024.
