Full "By-Wire" Truck Platform Approved in U.S.

Ree Automotive claims first with wireless control of mission-critical driving functions.

An Israeli automotive technology company has won certification in the U.S. for a fully ‘"by-wire" vehicle architecture without any mechanical link to mission-critical controls.

REE Automotive announces it has started customer deliveries of its full-by-wire P7-C electric chassis cab fitted with the REEcorner technology following certification in meeting North American Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) requirements and achieving EPA approval.

REE has begun customer deliveries with U.S. dealer Pritchard EV being the first to receive a P7-C demonstration truck for a roadshow with its large fleet customers. Additional REE-authorized dealers and leading fleets are expected to receive additional demonstration vehicles in the coming weeks.

REE says it is the first to certify a fully steer-by-wire, brake-by-wire and drive-by-wire vehicle with no mechanical connection between the driver and the control mechanisms. The vehicle is eligible for the U.S. federal IRS Commercial Clean Vehicle Tax Credit which allows customers to receive a tax credit of up to $40,000 per vehicle. The company is also in the process of initiating eligibility for various state incentives, which could bring the total incentive to more than $100,000 per vehicle, depending on the customer’s location.

The company claims several operational advantages of its systems including easier maneuverability, improved safety thanks to built-in redundancies, low cab step-in height, less servicing costs and future-proofing as autonomous-ready and with over-the-air upgrades.
