Continental claims to have improved its smart cockpit and advanced driver assistance systems thanks to a collaboration with the manufacturer of "breakthrough" semiconductors.
The Tier 1 automotive giant has teamed up with South Korea’s Telechips whose Dolphin system-on-chip (SoC) semiconductors claim to enable extensive smart cockpit functions on up to three displays from a single onboard computer. Among other features, this allows visualization of “Surround View,” the scalable 360-degree view using four cameras to enable monitoring of the whole area around the vehicle as well as generation of different perspectives of the vehicle.
The technology claims to aid parking and maneuvering at low speeds and also pedestrian and vehicle detection, for example in city traffic. It also allows ADAS functionality with the use of up to five cameras.
Continental’s head of the architecture and networking business area, Jean-François Tarabbia, says: “Collaborating with Telechips, we are enormously reducing development effort and costs for automotive manufacturers. Thus, we will be able to serve our customers from order intake to series production in 18 months.” The companies will demonstrate Continental’s Smart Cockpit High-Performance Computers in January at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
