Hyundai Launches Veloster Turbo in Home Market

Hyundai launches domestic sales of the Veloster Turbo at dealerships throughout Korea.

The sleek, sporty 3-door hatchback is equipped with a 1.6L Turbo GDI engine featuring a twin-scroll turbocharger. It develops 204 hp and 195 lb.-ft. (264 Nm) of torque.

Hyundai says fuel efficiency is 27.8 mpg (8.45 L/100 km) with a manual transmission.

The Veloster Turbo is available in Korea in only one trim package called “Extreme.” It includes 18-in. alloy wheels and light-emitting-diode headlamps and taillights.

The car’s hexagonal grille is a defining departure from the regular Veloster models being sold in many markets with a 1.6L 4-cyl. engine that develops 138 hp.

The domestic price is 21.95 million won ($19,458) with a 6-speed manual transmission and 23.45 million won ($20,790) with a double-clutch 6-speed automatic.

Hyundai is building the Veloster Turbo at one of its plants in Ulsan. The auto maker does not say when exports to North America or other major markets will begin.
