Passport gets styling changes for ’22, retains 280-hp 3.5L V-6.Honda

The Passport returned to Honda’s lineup in 2019 following a 17-year hiatus. The midsize CUV is based on the Honda Pilot but is shorter and more capable when the pavement ends.

After a few years on the market, it’s time for a refresh, and to do that, Honda is adding a new trim level and updated styling for 2022.

The new Passport will be available in Honda’s just-announced TrailSport configuration, and all models will get more aggressive styling.

The refreshed Passport will be Honda’s first vehicle available with the new TrailSport trim, which adds exclusive design features, more prominent exhaust outlets and optional torque-vectoring all-wheel drive.

The CUV will retain its 3.5L SOHC V-6 from the previous year, making 280 hp and 262 lb.-ft. (355 Nm) of torque. A 9-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive are standard, but all-wheel drive can be added.

The Passport TrailSport may be the semi-off-roader in the group, but all versions of the CUV have been beefed up for the new model year.

The front end from the A-pillars forward has been redesigned with a more aggressive look, and the rear sees a new bumper.

Honda offers an HPD appearance package for the Ridgeline pickup, which adds neat bronze wheels and exterior styling changes, and will offer some of those HPD options for the ’22 Passport.

Standard features for the new Passport include an 8-in. (20-cm) touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Honda Sensing advanced safety equipment, smart entry with push-button start and LED headlights.

Honda’s available i-VTM4 all-wheel-drive system uses proper torque vectoring to shift power between the wheels that need the most traction. Honda says the system improves performance, both on-road and off-, and can help improve stability on loose terrain.
