Ford Launches Fiesta Production in Mexico

To accommodate production of the Fiesta, Ford invested about $1 billion in the facility, creating 2,000 jobs and at least 6,000 indirect positions, the auto maker says.

Ford Motor Co. today begins production of its new ’11 Fiesta B-car at its Cuautitlan, Mexico, assembly plant.

Cuautitlan opened in 1964 and is one of Ford’s oldest existing plants. It formerly built F-Series pickups, the Ikon sedan and previous-generation Fiesta small cars for the Mexican market.

The new Fiesta has sold 750,000 units in its first 18 months on the market in Europe and Asia. The car is set to reach North American dealerships this summer.
