Lancia Ypsilon Urban Hatchback on Sale as BEV and Hybrid

Famous brand re-enters the market with two powertrain options available as series production starts.

Series production begins and order books open in Italy for the new premium B-segment hatchback Lancia Ypsilon which enters the market in battery-electric and mild-hybrid versions.

The urban commuter spearheads a revival of the famous brand leading with what most expect will be the most popular mild-hybrid powertrain. This employs a 100-hp 1.2L gasoline 3-cyl. with 48V technology.

It claims to enable the car to sprint from 0-to-62 mph (100 km/h) in 9.3 seconds and a top speed of 118 mph (190 km/h) at the same time claiming low emissions of between 103 and 104 g/km in the WLTP cycle.  Its smart drive system automatically switches to pure electric, such as during low-speed maneuvers, reducing the car's fuel consumption.

The hybrid version is equipped with a 6-speed e-DCT automatic transmission and, with the support of electronic functions such as e-Start, e-Parking, e-Queuing and e-Creeping, claims to enhance city driving behaviors.

The Ypsilon BEV version is fitted with a 156-hp, 191 lb.-ft. (259 Nm) electric motor and a 51-kWh battery pack claiming a maximum range between charges of 250 miles (403 km) in the WLTP combined cycle. The powertrain claims a 0-62 mph acceleration time of 8.2 seconds and a top speed of 93 mph (150 km/h).

It also claims fast charging from 20% to 80% in 24 minutes or enough for 62 miles (100 km) in 10 minutes. The car’s energy consumption stands between 14.3 and 14.6 kWh per 62 miles.

Orders open now in Italy with vehicles available in three new trim levels, including entry-level Lancia Ypsilon aimed at young buyers, mid-market Lancia Ypsilon LX and the limited-edition Lancia Ypsilon Edizione Cassina.

The Lancia Ypsilon range starts from €24,900 ($26,591) and with a financial offer in collaboration with Stellantis Financial Services Italia from €150 ($160) per month, including a 3-year/30,000-km (18,600 miles) warranty and an Easy Wallbox home charging equipment for BEV models.
